First of all, the name of this blog is a misnomer. I am not a cowgirl or a vegan. The blog name is a nod to my past and wink to my future.
I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, but I have lived in Boston for a good deal of my life. I have never owned a horse of my own. But I discovered growing up that you could take care of other people’s horses, and they would allow you to ride them in exchange. I have participated in a jim canna or two, and I have even been on a cattle drive. It was awesome. Because of this, and the fact that I know the difference between Lady Antebellum and Sugarland, my northeastern friends sometimes refer to me as a cowgirl. However, I have cousins who are real cowboys. By that I mean they mend fences, dig ditches and tend to animals on a ranch. If they ever heard me called a cowgirl, I am sure they would choke on their chew. After they were done laughing, they would say, “Why don’t you make yourself useful, cowgirl, and go wrangle me a beer.” And I would do it. Because I was embarrassed.
But I still own a pair of Justin Boots. I find they are good protection against the snow.
Also, I am not a vegan. For the last 42 years of my life, I have been a committed carnivore. However, I have a desire to move to a healthier and more environmentally sustainable diet. This blog is a journal of my journey. I am also looking for support and RECIPES!
